Republic Grill—open to the public

I just got back from a great lunch. It was a warm day, my friend Maryann suggested we take a leisurely walk down Bedford Street. Earlier this week a new Asian restaurant, Republic Grill, 235 Bedford St, opened across from the Avon Theatre. So, we figured we’d go check it out. What a great surprise. It is a nice size place, and the earthly-toned decor and subdued music set the mood for a peaceful and relaxing lunch. We took a table next to the wall. The service couldn’t be better. There were at least 3 different people taking care of our table at a time. It was super efficient. We started with a plate of assorted sushi: Tuna on a crispy wafer, an octopus/seafood seaweed salad, and special California roll tempura. I never had crunchy tempura sushi before, and it won me over. I loved it. Had a huge bowl of miso soup, and an order of teriyaki salmon. Super fresh. More than just delicious— outstandingly scrumptious. Maryann had a two-roll sushi lunch which was skillfully placed on a serving plate in front of her, like a work of fine art. She enjoyed her lunch a great deal, as well as I.

Afterwards, we took a stroll over the Ferguson Library. The Friends Book Store had some great used cookbooks for sale, which I picked up a great one titled Chocolate by Nick Malgieri. Maryann checked out some current mags.

I am so glad she invited me out to lunch today. Lunch in Stamford Downtown was quite a treat this afternoon.
