Lorca is pleased to present Mini
Paintings by Cris Dam, an exhibition of over twenty recent oil paintings that
will run through January 2014. These intimate works on clayboard will join
Dam’s permanent wall mural at Lorca, creating a rich aesthetic dialogue between
the design elements of the space and the installation of art.
Dam cofounded Dam,
Stuhltrager Gallery in 1998 and was an early gallerist and artist to propel
Williamsburg, Brooklyn, into an international art mecca. Born in Alaska, raised
in Spain, educated in New York City, and currently raising a family in
Connecticut, Dam unites diverse landscapes with universal patterns found
everywhere in nature to connect all cultures. Taking root in organic
abstraction, he combines exotic imagery with Pop colors and modern lines, and
his use of color-blending creates
infinite depth out of simple silhouettes.
Last fall, the American Embassy in Berlin,
Germany, commissioned Dam to create a mural for the 5’ x 60’ entrance walls of
Ökozentrum Park and a 60’ mural facing the entrance of Kunsthalle Bethanian.
Other recent projects include Paradigm Shift, The WYE, Berlin (2013); a 40’
mural for OneSpark, Jacksonville, Florida (2013); Scene & Heard, re:MADE,
Brooklyn (2013); Time Keeper, Empire Project, Istanbul (2012); CYLAND, IMAL,
Brussels (2012); and inclusion in group exhibits at The WYE, Berlin, and the
Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg, Russia (2012).
Dam recently
collaborated with Chouchette in Turkey, a company pairing contemporary artists
with traditional artisans in Tokat. His limited-edition handbags will be
available at Lorca during the exhibition.
Lorca is a specialty coffee shop and small exhibit space in downtown Stamford that opened in the fall of 2012. For all press inquiries, please call (203) 504-2847.
