Zody, hurry.

Yesterday, I dined out for lunch at Zody Cafe. And it seems like I have been dining out a lot lately, and I have. Lucky me. Mostly because I have been super lucky to be able to experience most of what makes the downtown so cool, which is the abundance of eateries that Stamford Downtown has to offer. With such a great selection of restaurants, I could go to a different one all month long. Well, back to Zody. Catch it while you can, cause rumor has it is that it will be changing soon. I don't have details, but right now, Zody Cafe is cooking up some great American and Italian dishes. To start, I had the Eggplant Rollatini. Really cheesy and good. For my main dish, I ordered the special of the day, Cavatelli with Grilled Chicken and Broccoli. Again, just right. I was with a group of 8 people, and most of them ordered Specialty Salads, which they loved. Even with a big table, the waiter keep the food comin. You know I like to people-watch, so I was thrilled to be seated next to the window. However, it was a little chilly, especially with our sub zero weather these days, but was bearable. Zody Cafe will be saying farewell before Valentine's Day, so make sure you don't miss it!

Emme, anytime

Emme of Capri, 277 Summer Street, 353-0626, must be a secret that only the most savy stamford restaurant goers must know about. Wanna know how I know this? Well, cause that's where I dined this week at lunchtime. It's a small space: Only a handful of tables, and cozy. Decor was fitting and set the "Italian" mood. A painted mural that spanned the whole wall and colorful Italian tiles depicting Capri where all around. It wasn't hard to find the perfect spot, which was a window next to the sidewalk . Perfect for people watching during the afternoon lunch hustle-bustle. Not a crowded place. Benefit being, that it was such a pleasure to be able to have nice conversation with the person I was sitting with, instead of having to make-believe I could hear him. (you know, it gets annoying after the tenth time I have to say "What did you say, I can't hear you...." during an hour long lunch) We had a nice chat with the owner, Massimo, with his sultry authentic Italian accent, who I could listen, with no problem, to whatever he would share. He was busy checking the "wine" pages for some future selections. Not knowing much about wine, the conversation was short, but I wished him luck and was pretty sure he didn't need it to pick out the perfect wines for the menu. Needless to say, my lunch was served to perfection: Tasty linguine and clams from New Zeeland.(sic). My friend had the freshest fish recommended, which I can't remember the name right now, but I know it was the first entree on the menu. As we left Massimo to head back to the office, we quietly validated our choice to one another as being right on mark for a nice, quiet restaurant close to the office, but best of all, excellent Italian fare.

Who's at Houlihan's?

I don't like to venture outdoors at lunchtime during the cold weather months, but I just had to try one of the newest places that opened recently at 5 Broad Street in Stamford Downtown--Houlihan's. Some of my friends were feeling the same way, so we ventured out.
Normally, I would expect a "chain" restaurant to be the same old, same old, but that is not what I encountered at Houlihan's. It was unexpectedly enjoyable.
The space was nice and open, and new, with lots of windows. We sat at one of the front tables near the door, which I thought would be drafty, but it wasn't. There were a handful of tables occupied with other lunchers, so it wasn't empty, but it wasn't full either. It wasn't loud, or noisy but quiet and comfy. I had one of the "nooner specials": two mini burgers and soup combination. The soup was rather interesting. Chicken Tortilla. Lots of chicken and vegetables, some shredded tortilla, a bit of spicy something, and much to my pleasant surprise--cheese! Cheese is my fav. I thought the soup rocked. The burgers were mini, but didn't disappoint at all. It was just enough food for a quick lunch. One of my fellow diners had veggie pizza and the other had a full size cheddar burger. It was liked by all. M, as I will refer to as one of my friends, had been there before and received a special coupon surprise to open upon her return. M had the waitress open the surprise envelope which revealed that she was the winner of a "mini" dessert! So M ordered a Bourbon apple cobbler something or other. She said it was super sweet, but I think she liked anyway.
It was yummy no-nonsense food, quick and courteous service, and personally, I'd like to go back again sometime soon. You should try it.......
