Bar Rosso Sneak peak...

Opening Thursday May 12th. Reservations available by calling 203-388-8640 or through http://www.blogger.com/www.opentable.com

Bar Rosso

Phone: 388-8640

24 Spring Street

From the creators of napa & co, Bar Rosso features a wood burning pizza oven set behind a 50 ft. bar serving an Italian tapas style menu with small plates, housemade pasta, housemade mozzarella and an impressive selection of prime meats complemented by Italian influenced side dishes and sauces. The impressive 250-label wine list focuses on the wines of Italy with a small homage to the California classics. Think homemade limonecella, sweet vermouth, grappa and a selection of unique bitters. Enjoy our quaint Spring Street outdoor patio or private dining facilities.

How lucky am I? Well, very.  I was at a special dinner this past Friday night at Bar Rosso
If you had ever been in that space before, where the old Bennett's Steakhouse was, you wouldn't recognize your stance.   A visual for you...high ceiling in the middle open space, layered stone walls at the bar, and major glass bubbled light fixtures that hang from above--but what I loved was the "fireplace-like" view from the brick oven stove in the back........There is a large bar area, which makes it a great afterwork go-to.  (Part of the name, no? Keep that in mind.)

Wanna know about the food? Sure.  Bar Rosso, with it's contemporary Italian menu, is a welcoming addition to Spring Street.  On the menu, many choices of pizza, small plates selections, and homemade pastas. Just to mention a few items to drool over.  I had an app of meatballs and gravy and it won me over.  Dinner for me was an order of slow cooked pork with lentils that melted in my mouth with a cinnamon gelato that was the perfect ending.  Great service too.
I can promise you one thing, when the weather warms, the indoor seating won't be the only hot ticket--the front outdoor seating is going to be hard to come by.  Don't miss out. Want my advice......Come early.

A little bit of Bar Rosso…Opening May 12

From the owners of BAR ROSSO:
We are so excited to showcase the efforts of the team that brought Napa & co, and before that, Telluride. Bar Rosso occupies the quaint Spring Street just a block away. This site has been totally transformed, sporting a dramatic two story high central dining area surrounded overhead on two sides by a dining mezzanine overlooking the main dining room and on a third by a private dining room softened behind shaded glass. A dramatic bar of stainless steel set against a backdrop of exposed stone runs the length of the room and leads the eye to the real focus of the place: the imposing steel surround of the wood burning beehive oven. Rustic wood ceilings and exposed stone walls set against high energy steel and glass combine the old and new at Bar Rosso, setting the tone, reflecting the soul of the restaurant. Featuring glorious Italian cheeses and charcuterie, small plate specialities, housemade mozzarella, burrata and provolone, mix and match bites off a large antipasto menu, wood oven thin crust pizza, homemade pasta and Italian inspired entrees. Bar Rosso is intended as a tour of the Italian culinary scene complemented by a full Italian wine list and cocktails inspired by the authentic ingredients of Italy, such as homemade coffee-vanilla bitters, grapefruit bitters, lemon-cello, orange-cello and amaretto. And with good weather....all of this can be enjoyed on the sunny patio out front!

Even by yourself you won't be alone at Bar Rosso. This is a social place, a casual spot where you can escape, a place to enjoy some vino, meet some new friends and enjoy the interpretation of Italian cuisine by the inventive and always exciting, Chef Dan Kardos.
Opening Thursday May 12th. Reservations available by calling 203-388-8640 or through http://www.blogger.com/www.opentable.com
