I'll start by mentioning the 7 amazing Alive at 5 concerts, and the sculpture in the streets, but just this past weekend, Tony Bennett performed at the Palace!  A couple of friends of mine had went to see him and were blown away.  Amazed at the talent and the stamina he displayed, but mostly his old style. Well, I wasn't lucky enough to see him croon, but I did however get the chance to visit the The Arts and Crafts on Bedford yesterday. It ran the whole weekend, but I waited till the sun came out on Sunday, to take the stroll.  A large selection of vendors keep me bouncing around.  What a terrific place to find an unique piece of jewelry, or a special gift.  (I collected a few business cards since I know I will be looking for a special gift and will certainly search them on the web) Hubby and I had the best time just zig zagging about.  Jewelry was my mission, so we seemed to stop for that more often. Found a quirky pair of earrings I bought from Sheryl Blais, who is my favorite booth this year.  Love her jewelry.\u003cbr /\u003eIf you like watercolor  paintings, you couldn't go wrong at the Bob Callahan Design tent.  The most fabulous \"island\" watercolors have the power to transport you to the bluest waters, and whitest sands.  \u003cspan class\u003d\"fullpost\"\u003eSo, after meandering down Bedford Street, my husband and I stopped for a bite at Butterfield 8. We dined on their extended outdoor patio (I knew it was extended cause they email-blasted me so), and watched the other fair-goers shop around.   Most memorable of the meal was a salt \u0026amp; pepper calamari. Served with specks of red and green peppers nestled inside a deep fried shell.  It was just the right spicy and just the right crunchy.  It was fun to casually linger at the fair. He arrived in Bethel, New York with over a thousand reels of film and a crew of several camera operators. The concert was originally scheduled to take place in the 300-acre Mills Industrial Park in northeast Middletown, New York.  Woodstock Ventures had leased the area for $100,000 in the Spring of 1969.  Town officials were assured that no more than 50,000 people would attend.   On July 15, 1969, the concert was officially banned on the basis that the planned portable toilets would not meet town codes.  Following the ban, Elliot Tiber, who owned a local motel offered to host the event on his 15 acres.  When it was clear that the site was too small, Tiber introduced the promoters to Max Yasgur, a dairy farmer.  On July 20, 1969, Yasgur met with the organizers and agreed to rent 600 acres for $75,000.  Yasgur’s land formed a natural bowl sloping down to Filippini Pond on the lands north side.  The stage would be set at the bottom of the hill with the pond forming a backdrop.  The name Woodstock is synonymous with the festival because of its original planned location.\u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003eMichael Wadleigh’s finished product was rumored to have consisted of about 120 miles of footage or over 300 hours of footage to create his original 225 minute director’s cut. Warner Brothers released the film on March 26, 1970.  The film, which cost around $600,000 to produce, earned over $50 million in the United States and millions more from foreign rentals.  Woodstock stands as a milestone in the documentary film field, receiving an Academy Award® for Best Documentary at the 1971 ceremony.  Although the film was directed by Michael Wadleigh, it was edited by Martin Scorsese and Thelma Schoonmaker, along with several other editors.  Schoonmaker was nominated for an Academy Award® for Best Film Editing.  Woodstock also received an Academy Award® nominations for Best Sound.  The film was screened at the 1970 Cannes Film Festival, but wasn’t entered into the main competition. \u003cbr /\u003e\u003cbr /\u003eIn 1996, Woodstock was selected for preservation by the Library of Congress  in the United States National Film Registry as being “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant.”  Today a plaque has been placed at the original site in commemoration the festival.  The field and stage area remain preserved in their rural setting.  On the field are the remnants of a neon flower and bass from the original concert.  In the middle of the field, there is a totem pole with wood carvings of Jimi Hendrix in the middle, Janis Joplin on Top, and Jerry Garcia on the bottom.
