Ferrante- Jazz, Friday June 29

Last Saturday night, Felix & the Cats entertained a crowd of patrons, and they will be back for another great performance Friday night, starting at 9:30 PM. There will be a group of 10 performers to entertain Stamford Downtown and its jazz fans. Bring your special one for a night of unforgettable jazz!

Felix & the Cats was formed by Felix Endico who has studied with the likes of “Wild Bill Davis”, the Duke Ellignton musician and arranger of the Count Basie classic “April in Paris”. He also has had the honor of sitting in with Erskine Hawkin’s band, of “Tuxedo Junction” fame and the last to play the Savoy Ballroom. Felix has also been influenced by both R&B legend Jimmy “Preacher” Robins as well as Red Blazer regular Sol Yaged (“The Benny Goodman Clone”). Needless to say these influences have been incorporated into the Cats’ repertoire that is guaranteed to delight.

Presently, the Cats’ Big Band musicians have also joined with young Swing Turks from the Juilliard Jazz program, transporting audiences back in time to the New York and Chicago jazz clubs of the 1930’s. Their book includes arrangements from the Henderson Brothers, Jimmy Mundy and Sy Oliver, originators of the Big Band sounds of Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey and Artie Shaw. While their passion is Swing, Felix’s band has built a diverse catalog over the years to include Blues, R&B, Latin and Rock. They have charmed audiences at venues such as Well’s of Harlem, The Rainbow Room and Swing 46, which have claimed Felix and the Cats as their house band over the past 15 years. They were also featured in the Spring 2006 issue of Martha Stewart Weddings. So plan on coming to Ferrante’s (9:30 sharp) , June 29--to be transported to another time and place. Visit: http://www.felix-jazz.com/node/8 for a little taste of their music.
Reservations are highly recommended as tables are limited. We look forward to see you on Friday, June 29.

Special Sauce on Thursday, June 28 in Columbus Park in Stamford Downtown.  The Concert begins at
5pm.

G. LOVE & SPECIAL SAUCE
The alternative hip-hop band from Philadelphia is best known for its “sloppy” and “laid back” blues sound that encompasses classic R&B. Founder of the band Garret Dutton aka G. Love was 16 when he discovered folk music, the blues and Bob Dylan — which have been the backbone for everything that has followed for him musically. The group’s current album Fixin’ to Die is its ninth studio album and was produced by the indie rock band, The Avett Brothers.

JAY LOFTUS
Jay Loftus, a Jersey native, began playing guitar for the same reason any 9 year old kid would: to be cool and get girls. Since then, life happened and the music evolved into his own personal sound influenced by his favorite 90s rock bands. www.jayloftusmusic.com
LAWRENCE TRAILER, winner of Stamford Downtown’s Bandapalooza Battle of the Bands, will begin the evening on June 28.  Lawrence Trailer is a Singer/Songwriter Pop Rock artist based out of Brooklyn, NY. His debut album, "Declaration", is a musical stand for a new dynamic style and unique sound; offering the substance of a singer/songwriter but the movement and dynamics of a pop rock group.

She has had solo exhibits in Israel and the Ukraine and group exhibits in the Czech Republic, New York City and locally in Stamford. Statement
Stamford has become my home since 2008; it inspires me and energizes me.
One finds history, innovation, and technology here. Those who know me, know that I prefer walking through town than riding a car and when I walk my eyes feast on points of interest which I try to capture in my paintings and drawings. My paintings are not a literal recording of what I see but are an atmospheric impression of what I feel about what I am documenting. I express my feelings through line, color, and texture. This collection of work is a tribute to the city of Stamford and its people, and also a thank you to Stamford for making me feel welcomed.

Morton's Steakhouse - Favorite Dish - Morton’s “Million-Dollar” Hamburger

Morton's Steahouse  is sharing their recipe for
Morton’s “Million-Dollar” Hamburger, one of their restaurant's favorite dish.  Check it out below.

Years ago, before Arnie Morton and Klaus Fritsch really knew one another, they both worked at the Playboy club in Montreal. They were in the process of changing the menu, and Klaus cooked a hamburger that he sent out for Arnie to try. A few minutes later Arnie burst into the kitchen, demanding in no uncertain terms to know “Who cooked that hamburger?” As Klaus stepped forward to claim responsibility, he wasn’t sure if Arnie was pleased or not. To his relief, Arnie exclaimed that it was the best he’d ever tasted. From that day forward, Klaus and Arnie worked together and eventually opened Morton’s Steakhouses. Hence the name, the “Million-Dollar Hamburger”!

Morton’s “Million-Dollar” Hamburger
Serves 6
4 pounds coarse-grind ground sirloin
4 large eggs
¾ cup tomato juice
1 tablespoon salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
6 large hamburger buns
3 tablespoons clarified butter
Six ½ – inch thick slices tomato
Six ¼- inch thick slices Spanish onion
6 large leaves iceberg lettuce
Ketchup or another topping, for serving

1. Preheat the broiler. Lightly oil and position the rack as close to the heat source as possible.
2. In a mixing bowl, combine the sirloin, eggs, tomato juice, salt and pepper. Use your hands or a wooden spoon to mix thoroughly. Divide the meat into six equal portions and gently form them into patties. Transfer to the broiler pan, and using a small sharp knife, make a crosshatch mark on the top of each burger about 1/8 inch deep. (This lets the juices percolate through the burger, and we also like the way it looks.)
3. Brush the inside of each bun with the butter. Toast the buns in the broiler for about 30 seconds on each side, or until lightly browned; be careful that the buns don’t get too browned. Remove the buns and cover to keep warm. Reposition the broiler tray so that it is about 6 inches from the heat.
4. Broil the burgers for 3 to 3 ½ minutes on each side for rare, 4 minutes on each side for medium-rare and 4 ½ to 5 minutes on each side for medium.
5. To serve, put the bottom half of each bun on a plate. Top with a burger and then a tomato slice, onion slice and lettuce leaf. Add the top of the bun. Repeat to make five more burgers. Serve with ketchup, if desired.  At the restaurant, we offer ketchup, sautéed mushrooms, sautéed onions, and cheese (Cheddar, Monterey Jack, Swiss and Blue Cheese are the most popular).

If you’d like leave the cooking to us, the Morton’s Hamburger is available on our lunch menu, our To Go menu, as well as in our bars. If you want a smaller sample of this tasty burger, try our Miniature Prime Burgers on the Bar Bites menu.
