The Capital Grille Kicks-Off 3rd Annual Artist Series Wine Event

The Capital Grille Kicks-Off 3rd Annual Artist Series Wine Event
2012 Limited-Edition Cabernet Sauvignon to Benefit Share Our Strength ®

The Capital Grille Artist Series Wine Event is returning for its third year this spring, beginning March 19. This annual event gives guests at The Capital Grille a one-of-a-kind opportunity to experience an exclusive, limited allocation wine adorned with a unique piece of original artwork as its label, while supporting Share Our Strength® and their mission to end childhood hunger in America. The nationally renowned fine-dining restaurant, known for its dry aged, hand-carved steaks, fresh seafood and award-winning wine list, will once again donate $25 to Share Our Strength® for every limited-edition bottle sold.

.
This year’s Artist Series wine is an exquisite Cabernet Sauvignon hand-selected by The Capital Grille’s own Master Sommelier, George Miliotes.
“We are extremely pleased to bring back the Artist Series Wine Event for a third consecutive year, as we relish the opportunity to bring our guests a restaurant wine experience unlike any other,” said John Martin, President of The Capital Grille.  “As always, we are thrilled to support a worthy cause like Share Our Strength, which helps feed hungry children in America.  The Capital Grille has donated nearly $1 million to Share Our Strength over the past four years, and we look forward to reaching and exceeding that milestone this year.”
The Capital Grille Artist Series Cabernet was hand-crafted at Napa Valley’s Freemark Abbey Winery by Ted Edwards, in collaboration with George Miliotes, one of only 186 Master Sommeliers in the world. Fewer than 1,000 cases of this unique wine, blended solely for The Capital Grille, will be produced.  The wine’s grapes were harvested from carefully selected vineyards in Napa Valley, where differing elevations and a unique terrain result in the perfect conditions for creamy, roundly textured flavors.
“We are committed not only to a fine dining experience, but also to introducing our guests to the wonderful world of wines,” said Miliotes. “We strive to give our guests the chance to enjoy fine wines from across the globe, and created The Capital Grille Artist Series Cabernet Sauvignon to give them an incomparable opportunity to experience a magnificent vintage with ripe fruit flavors, prominent tannin and the complexity and balance expected of a fine Cabernet.”
To match the work of art inside the bottle, The Capital Grille invited artists and wine lovers to submit original art for the bottle’s label, during a competition held last fall. The winning painting, Complexity, by Missouri-based artist Julie Agee, was chosen for the way the vibrant colors and abstract lines perfectly complement the robust flavors and subtle undertones of the wine.  The artwork will appear on every individually numbered bottle of The Capital Grille Artist Series Cabernet Sauvignon. This is just one part of The Capital Grille’s award-winning wine program, which is routinely recognized by many industry and media outlets.  Featuring more than 350 Old and New World selections housed in floor-to-ceiling, temperature-controlled wine kiosks, The Capital Grille also offers a Captain’s List of 125 collector wines.  Additionally, guests have the opportunity to lease a wine locker, personalized with an inscribed brass nameplate.

The Capital Grille is located at 230 Tresser Boulevard.  Reservations may be made online at www.TheCapitalGrille.com or by calling (203) 967-0000.

For more information on The Capital Grille, please visit www.TheCapitalGrille.com.

(http://www.franklinstreetworks.org) or call (203) 253-0404.
Franklin Street Works is located at 41 Franklin Street in downtown Stamford,
Connecticut, near the UCONN campus and less than one hour from New York City via
Metro North. Franklin Street Works is approximately one mile (a 15 minute walk) from
the Stamford train station. On street parking is available on Franklin Street (metered

Street and in the Summer Street Garage (100 Summer Street), behind Target.

Sunday: 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. with extended hours on Thursdays, 12:00 p.m. – 7:00

About Franklin Street Works
Franklin Street Works is a new, not-for-profit contemporary art space, café, and social
gathering place in Stamford, Connecticut. It produces original on-site and off-site
exhibitions, artist projects, and related programming. Located in renovated row houses
on Franklin Street, the two- story space includes three galleries and a café. Franklin
Street Works embraces innovative art and exhibition practices, a DIY attitude, and a
workshop approach to its programming, audiences, and organizational structure. The
activities and attitudes of the café reflect and expand on the organization’s mission as a
contemporary art venue.
 Here is the rest.
Rotation
Beginning on February 24th and closing on March 16th, this ambitious project consists of
four “mini exhibitions,” each lasting four days, and each reflecting different themes.
Through multiple, short-lived shows,
of shifting contexts, fresh curatorial perspectives, and highly varied technologies. The
show’s fluctuating structure also asks us to imagine the exhibition as a series of changing
visual events, rather than a static installation.
One grouping includes artists who harness specific elements from nature (including
rocks, water, snow, and a snail) as imagery to foreground unique approaches to "process"
in the act of art making. Love and interpersonal relationships inform another show,
which explores romantic exchanges, desires, and miscommunications via a variety of
platforms and situations (including Chat Roulette, Craigslist singles ads, and public
displays of affection). A third installation explores "psychological landscapes," whose
narratives are situated within imaginative, culturally specific, and often geographically
peripheral environments. Finally, New York-based curator Anthony Thornton rounds out
the schedule with a selection of videos that explore the public inevitability of private
performance within our increasingly connected world.
Participating artists/curators include: Robert Chirila, Petra Cortright, Keith Edmier,
Lindsey Eskind, Don Evans, Jesse Fleming, T. Foley, Alexa Gerrity, Matteo Giordano,
Ilana Halperin, Seth Kelly, Karsten Krejcarek, Camille Laurelli, Jillian Mayer, David
O'Reilly, Ariana Page-Russell, John Pilson, Cheryl Pope, Joshua Seidner, Rbt. Sps., Brent
Stewart, Anthony Thornton, and Grant Worth.

Horsin' Around Stamford Downtown

Get ready to be blown away.  The newest sculpture exhibit is about to kick off in Stamford Downtown this spring.   It's called Horsin Around, and you guessed it, its themed around horse figures.
Each year Stamford Downtown hosts a distinguished outdoor sculpture exhibit designed to attract both local and regional audiences.
Horsin' Around Stamford Downtown, similar to the Cow Parade, Art-O-Mobiles, Stamford Safari and It's Reigning Cats & Dogs, will be an interactive sculpture exhibit.  Artists, through a juried selection process, will paint, sculpt and decorate fiberglass horses that will line the sidewalks and parks of the Downtown as well as the Stamford Town Center.

A Penny Saved is a Penny Earned by Fazzino

New and exciting this year is our special "celebrity" artist!  Sooooo excited, and I know Stamford will be too.  He is Charles Fazzino.  You've seen his work in NYC, and maybe even at an area airport.
Mr. Fazzino is an internationally renowned 3D Pop Artist. Since developing his distinctive 3D art technique more than thirty years ago, Charles Fazzino’s name has been synonymous with bright, whimsical, and wonderfully detailed 3D Pop Art.  His work can be seen in hundreds of galleries and museums worldwide.  Check out this 3D Pop Art Gallery to experience Fazzino’s art.

Can't wait to see his specially designed   Horsin' Around Stamford Downtown horse, made just for Stamford Downtown.

Avon Theatre’s 2012 Oscar® Nominated Film Festival and Volta

This past weekend,  I attended a portion of the Avon's Oscar®-Nominated Film Festival

Caught a showing of  The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore (2011), a 15 minute animated short.    Certainly worth a watch.  I like watching the "shorts" since I have a short attention span most of the time. The "shorts" are a mix of nominated short  films, 7 -15 minute or so in length.   Hate to confess it, but I arrived late, and missed the first short.  All were quite entertaining, and rightfully nominated.  (all the shorts are online at shorts.tv/theoscars.com) You be the judge....
Afterwards,  went around the corner for a leisurely brunch at Volta.  Super crowded, and lucky to get a seat.  Open face egg and bacon sandwich, with a side of wild mushroom soup. Choco gelato to finish.  All good.  All worth the trip. It was a cold Saturday, and worth venturing out.

See others nominated selections at the Avon during their Oscar Nominated Film Festival.
